The Promise That Met Me in the Waiting

Life has been heavy and hard these past few months. Today, it all seemed to catch up with me.

My mind was racing, my heart was anxious, and I realised that, with everything that has been happening, I simply hadn’t had the time to sit quietly with my Bible for far longer than I should have.

So this evening, I stopped what I was doing, opened God’s Word, and simply asked Him to show me what I needed to hear. This is where He led me:

“For I satisfy the weary ones and refresh everyone who languishes.”

Jeremiah 31:25 (LSB)

As I read those words, I found myself thinking about the people to whom God first spoke them. They had endured loss, uncertainty, hardship, and exile. Humanly speaking, their future must have seemed bleak. Yet God reminded them that He had not forgotten them. His covenant had not changed, His compassion had not diminished, and His purposes would still be accomplished.

That was exactly what my own heart needed to remember today.

These past months have been some of the hardest of my life. We now have a freedom we have not had for many years, yet this new season has brought challenges I never expected. Caring for my daughter, rebuilding our lives, and living with so many unknowns has required me to trust the Lord day by day.

Today also marks a small but significant turning point. After months of waiting, it finally seems as though this journey may be moving forward. There are still many unanswered questions, and I don’t know what tomorrow will bring, but before anything else changed, the Lord reminded me through His Word that He is still faithful.

As I sat with this verse, I realised it isn’t simply speaking about physical tiredness. It speaks to the deep weariness that comes from carrying burdens over a long period of time.

It reminded me that God does not overlook His weary children. He sees them. He knows exactly what they are carrying, and He alone is able to renew the strength that has been worn away.

I also love what this verse does not say.

God doesn’t tell the weary to somehow become stronger before coming to Him.

He doesn’t tell us to keep pushing until we have nothing left.

Instead, He promises that He is the One who satisfies the weary and refreshes those who are faint.

What a gracious God we serve.

I don’t know what lies ahead, but I know the One who does.

My circumstances may change, and they may not unfold in the way I expect, but the character of God never changes. His faithfulness is not dependent upon how quickly my prayers are answered, but upon who He is.

The God who sustained Israel is the same God who remains faithful today. When you are carrying burdens that seem too heavy, or when you have been waiting far longer than you hoped or expected, remember these words.

God sees us.

He has not forgotten us.

His timing is perfect, even when we cannot yet understand it.
